About

alexa powell wang

Dancer | Singer | Actor | Circus

Alexa was born in Boston, Massachusetts & first caught the performing bug as a “shoe urchin” in Tony William’s Urban Nutcracker at the age of 7. Growing up as a homeschooler through elementary school, she was able to explore all of her many interests such as dance, violin, theatre, forensic science, & local journalism. For her eighth birthday she was gifted a unicycle by her grandparents, sparking a love for circus training that led her to tour with the Circus Smirkus Big Top Tour for 5 years as a clown, aerialist, juggler, & acrobat, as well as serving as the dance captain.

This circus training lead her to be cast in her first professional theatre production, Barnum, at Moonbox Productions at the age of 14. Her (much older) cast mates made her realize that you can get a college degree in musical theatre & make an entire career out of it, much to the chagrin of her STEM high school counselor. Nevertheless, her senior year audition circuit ended with an acceptance to Pace University’s BFA Musical Theatre program & a newfound love for the theatre industry.

At Pace she appeared as Georg in She Loves Me, Margaret/Dance Captain in 9 to 5, & the Mermaid in Big Fish, as well as acting as assistant choreographer for Pippin. She also served on the directing team for A Night of Color 2023 and 2024. She graduated in May 2024 with honors & a minor in mathematics.
